The first-person perspective is gone (which makes sense, because Annihilation was simply a journal). With each question answered, Control is punched in the face with ten more. After a truly original and mind bending first book with Annihalation, this sequel was a definite read. This is such a long and laborious read compared to the first book.
Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation is very much modernized H.P. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Authority is a 2014 novel by Jeff VanderMeer. It is the second in a series of three books called the Southern Reach Trilogy. In an interview, VanderMeer stated that, "if Annihilation is an expedition into Area X, then Authority is an expedition into the Southern Reach, the agency sending in the expeditions." Unfortunately, it was a novel of a different kind and felt as though it was lacking something fundamental. Of course Area X and the Southern Reach are confusing! She’s the one who got him the director’s job at the Southern Reach, the job recently vacated by the psychologist. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Rate: 3/5. I totally can't wait to see this thing through. So it's on to Acceptance...I hope I make it!Constantly skipping sentences because this was so slow.

Acceptance: A Novel (The Southern Reach Trilogy (3)) Although I preferred "Annihilation" this is a decent 2nd book and we get to learn a little bit more about Area X, although a lot about it is still unanswered. The obscure top-secret government agency tasked with monitoring Area X, The Southern Reach, is in a state of chaos. Rather than clarifying the mysteries of the first novel, Authority only adds more: we get a new main character, more exposure to the mysterious (and dysfunctional) Southern Reach organization, and a bunch of freaky new imagery. He took 100 pages of action and crammed it into 550. We know that something bad is coming, but we don't know what, or when. This and Annihilation are the best books I've read for a long time, so I don't fancy my chances of finding anything else as good very easily.as I like conclusion. Annihilation: A Novel (The Southern Reach Trilogy (1)) Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Things are not at all in order in the scientific research station that has been studying Area X since it occurred. I had no intention of reading the entire trilogy when I started Annihilation but now I can't stop; it's like a new addiction. I just could not get invested in it. In all, I will not say it was a terrible read, but not the best volume in the series. This book is the second in a series and I am more lost than after the first one. To me, The Southern Reach Trilogy is a literary chess match. (The ending in particular feels like a sudden, gorgeous parting of clouds.)
by Jeff VanderMeer ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 6, 2014 After the chills and thrills of Annihilation , published in February 2014, this second volume in VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy—a science fiction/horror hybrid—is an altogether quieter affair. Authority really showcases Jeff VanderMeer's talent for scaring the Hell out of people, lights on or off. Assortment of supporting characters you're not sure about, some feeling a bit unecessary, but overall a good bridging story between books 1 and 3.
